After the photoshoot Ann gave me some Homeopathics, Adam and I laid down for a quick powernap.  The contractions came again.  My friend / doula Jen arrived and we began walking around the block.  Around 3PM and I continued walking around the house, stopping during contractions. My Midwife Ann and Doula Tonya suggested that during contractions I stand with my feet wide apart and rock from side to side to help get the baby down. The first time I tried it, it hurt pretty bad, but after that, the rocking actually felt good, and Adam would put his hand on my lower back at the same time to help relieve the back pain. Ann also had a great suggestion for a position to help the baby come down the birth canal. She has Adam sit on the birth ball with me in his lap facing him. My hips were dropped down in between his legs to allow more room for the baby.

I guess it was about 4PM or so when she checked me and said I was a 9 and could push if I wanted, but didn't have to. I didn't feel the "urge" so I just squatted w/ some contractions, trying to feel when to push.   I let the first few contractions pass before I felt like I knew when to push, and then I began pushing, but only with the last half of the contraction. The first half was too painful. I was a little surprised that the first few pushes didn't do much, because Ashton had only taken 2 pushes to be born.

Midwife Ann showed Adam how to do everything. He did the perineum massage, help make a pathway w/ his fingers for the baby, the whole nine yards. He was awesome!
Once fully dilated,  I only needed a few more pushes and Aeden’s head was out. Jen and Tonya told me to look, but I couldn't quite see, so Jen lifted my leg out of the way for me, and I was able to feel Aeden's head, and caught a small glimpse. That was so cool, and felt so tiny!  One more push and Aeden came out so fast that Adam almost didn’t catch him!

Meeting our sweet little boy was the best feeling! We had worked so hard together to get him here and we were so happy to finally see him and get to hold him and kiss him!
Everything went great! Aeden is nursing really well, and we are so happy to have our family complete!
My midwife Ann arrived and checked me at about 10:15 and told me I was at 6 cm, 80% effaced and the baby was at a -1 station, meaning he was still a little high in the birth canal.
The arrival of my midwife and doula and the departure of my two oldest kids calmed things down a little, and by 11AM my contractions were only coming sporadically. By 11:30AM they had stopped completely.  At this time Tonya and I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to take some pictures  pregnancy pictures.

March 12, 2005

We woke up this morning about 7AM. Adam asked me how I was feeling, and I told him I had had contractions all night, but I wasn't sure I was in labor. I went to the bathroom to check my urine and make sure they weren't just dehydration contractions, but when I wiped, there was blood, so I knew the baby was coming!  Contractions were about 2 minutes apart and so I called the Midwife on-call as well as my friend who is a Doula and Photographer, Tonya.
